There is a lot of hype about social media and how great it is for generating traffic for your website. We have all heard it. Right? This article isn’t about that. I don’t disagree that social media can generate a lot of traffic for your website. It can. But, it is really important for your SEO too. It is especially important for your articles’ SEO. Here is why.
The search engines have come to realize that now that there are millions of people using social media to share things they like, it has presented an excellent opportunity for them to find and separate content based on that content’s quality. Basically, the links that people create with their social media accounts can be used as a reasonably accurate measure of content quality.
It is not the first link from a social media site that really boosts the perceived quality of a page, it is the second and third and fourth and so on. People use fake accounts all the time on sites like Twitter and Facebook. It is much more laborious to fake the second or third or fourth share though. And, the search engines know that. That is why they will raise the stature of an article that has been reTweeted a bunch of times.
Bing, in particular, is using cross signals across the social media landscape to signal what content is more important. If you want to get something indexed in Bing quickly, then get it shared on both Facebook and Twitter. Actually both Google and Bing love Facebook. Twitter is also liked, but to a slightly lesser extent.
What this means is that you can use Twitter and Facebook to get your articles indexed. In case you haven’t noticed, sometimes the articles you publish on article directories can have a hard time getting indexed. It all depends on the directory and how much exposure they give to your article. It also depends on how much time the search engine bots spend on that website.
Taking the time to write and submit nicely written original and genuinely unique articles is a complete waste of time if the articles don’t end up getting indexed. So, as article marketers, social media is a welcome friend. We need it. We can really exploit it for what it is worth.
So, make sure you are at least Tweeting your articles. It is much better if you also share them with a Facebook account, even if it’s not yours. Any other social media accounts that you have would also be appropriate for getting and keeping your articles indexed. That includes social media accounts that use the nofollow attribute on their links. The search engines still see those links and they will send a bot to check out that link if it is a new link they don’t yet know about. Otherwise the nofollow link just counts as a citation or mention of your article. Both situations are beneficial.
Do you want to learn how powerful article marketing can be when you combine it with social media? That is a test I am conducting at ArticleMarketingCaseStudy.com and you can be part of it. I have created a website with ten articles on it. I am promoting that site using articles like the one you are reading right now. Each article is individually written and one hundred percent original. I have added social media buttons to the bottom of each article where people can share an article if they want to. If you visit the site you will like what you read. The homepage is exceptionally informative. I think you will want to come back to the site again and again. And, I am hoping that you like the site enough to share some of the articles on it with your social media networks of friends. I think the site will be a wonderful success, but I need other knowledgeable people in the article marketing world to check it out and vouch for it.
