The Plain Truth About Building Niche Websites

You read a lot of misinformation online about building niche websites as a way to earn passive income.  There are a lot of people out there hawking their systems that are supposed to turn a brand new person into a self employed stay at home business owner in just a month or two.  You have seen the ones I am talking about.  You have every right to be skeptical about them.  Here is why.

Unless you are a person who has a substantial amount of experience in the internet marketing industry, chances are you aren’t going to succeed with one of those systems.  Just ask those people what percentage of their students regularly earn a couple thousand dollars or more per month doing what this guru is teaching.  Unless they can come up with an impressive number, you are probably better off passing on their supposed no fail system.  Think about their real motivation behind selling you their system.

They will tell you that if you work hard you are assured success.  This is bull.  You aren’t guaranteed success just from hard work.  Everyone’s idea of hard work is different.  With these systems, there are always key pieces of the puzzle that are missing.  From the systems that I have personally seen, you would have to blindly accept that their system is going to work.  You would have to ignore your extreme urge to understand what they are teaching.  If you actually tried to learn and understand why they are doing what they are doing, it will inevitably take you way longer than the time frame they are suggesting.  It will likely take you one year or more.

Building niche sites that are actually lucrative is much harder for a beginner than most of these people make it out to be.    You have to immerse yourself into the world of search engine algorithms, consumer behavior, persuasion tactics, PHP programming, basic HTML and a number of other things that you are probably completely ignorant about right now.   If you are willing to actually do that and invest the necessary time, you may actually come out afterward with the knowledge and skills necessary to build profitable niche websites repetitively.

Look at the personal history that these gurus are revealing.  They will tell you firsthand that they had to learn it the hard way.  That is the truth my friend.  You will need to learn it the hard way too.  Someone might show you a system that works for now, but that system will fail one day.  That day is probably coming soon.  You will be left in the dark because you don’t understand what you are doing.

Think about it.  If a doctor showed you how to do gallbladder surgery on someone and then asked you to go in the room next door to perform the operation yourself on your own patient, would you be able to do it without completely butchering the person? I doubt it.  Maybe one percent of people would.  If you really wanted to be a surgeon, don’t you think you would be far better off going to medical school and learning how to use every surgical tool properly first?  Wouldn’t you like to know how to fix another organ nearby if you accidentally nicked it with your scalpel?  You bet you would.

If you are new at this and you really want to learn how to build niche websites it is going to take you a long time.  It is going to be a slow and aggravating procedure that you will screw up a whole bunch of times.  That is the simple truth.  Anyone who is trying to sell you some magical system that is going to make you a success within 30, 60 or 90 days is selling you a broken promise.  Ultimately you will be disappointed.  If you don’t have the determination to study this business long term, then save your money and quit now.  Nothing in life is that easy.  This business is no exception.

Almost every one of these systems is just a way for the guru to make money from you whether you succeed or not.  They will promise that they actually care about you.  That is totally immaterial.  In reality, they make their money whether you succeed or fail.  That is why you have to pay them before they teach you anything and before you experience any success.  They are preying on your natural tendency to be greedy and lazy.  You can’t help but be curious about the promise of easy money.  You have an underlying urge to see if there is any truth to the claims.  The always use some disclaimer that says that testimonial results aren’t typical.  No duh!  Of course they aren’t typical.  You are almost guaranteed to be another typical person who does not experience anywhere near the amount of success that they are very good at showing you.

There is no doubt that building a business for yourself around building niche websites is going to be a very time consuming process.  I suggest you do it part time as your schedule allows.  Don’t burn any bridges in an effort to try replacing your primary income with this line of work.  Keep your day job and study this material like a night course in college.  It will take you quite a while to get good enough to replace your day job.  There is plenty of free information out there that you can test for yourself to learn what you are doing.  You don’t need to pay for it.  You just need the determination and the time.  That is the plain truth.

I read this post earlier, and just came back to comment…

I enjoyed reading what somebody has wrote via the plain truth as opposed to lies and fake promises about the “making money online” industry.

The shoddy info packets from self-professed SEO Gurus is enough to turn a person’s stomach, but to read this article that was geared toward the newbies out there attempting the lovely task of building niche websites for profit, was somewhat pleasant.

Yep, it takes a while to make money online (unless you have incredible pull/know the right people with high-traffic websites, etc.) and yes, one must learn the hard way to understand the best way.

All in all, it is fun and games once ya get past the marketing gauntlet, and you may find yourself horsing around more than getting serious, once you start earning regular checks (always a problem of mine, as I like to joke around a lot), but then again, I still hold down an offline job during the process of collecting my semi-regular, petty checks online; ha!

But seriously, I wrote a blog post on a free blogspot domain a while back, that would compliment this post. I don’t know if this comment field hyperlinks long-strand URLs or not, but if it does, here it is:

-Link removed because approving links in comments like this strongly encourages even more spamming – Sorry -

That links to a page I wrote about bad SEO advice and a little bit about the concept of blogging for money. Feel free to add your comments to that post, as well; cheers! :)
